Clemson is working to finalize a contract extension with head coach Brad Brownell, according to a report.
That’s per college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, who notes that the new deal is expected to last 6 seasons.
Sources: Clemson is working to finalize a new six-year contract for Brad Brownell. The Tigers are 27-6 this season and will play McNeese on Thursday in the Round of 64.Brownell led Clemson to the Elite Eight last season.
— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) March 19, 2025Brownell has been linked to a couple of other head coaching vacancies this offseason, including Indiana. However, the Hoosiers moved forward with hiring Darian DeVries on Tuesday.
This will be the 2nd consecutive year that Brownell has signed an extension. According to The State’s Chapel Fowler, Brownell signed a 5-year contract last offseason after leading Clemson to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1980. His salary ranks 37th amongst Division I coaches for 2024-25, but that is now expected to rise with this new contract.
Brownell has been at Clemson since 2011. He made the NCAA Tournament just 3 times in his first 13 seasons at the helm, but has now broken through with at-large berths in back-to-back years. It’s the first time Clemson has reached back-to-back NCAA Tournaments since 2010-11. Clemson has never made the 2nd weekend in back-to-back tournaments.
Clemson will face McNeese at 3:15 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon.
