A MAJOR city has launched a scheme to give drivers a helping hand with traffic violations.

Motorists who fail to appear in the city’s municipal court in Atlanta, Georgia, will no longer have to fear arrest if they fail to appear for traffic-related charges.

For those who miss their day in court, arrest warrants will now be waived – although traffic offenses themselves will not be.

The 2025 amnesty program will see special hearing sessions and court calendars held from March 17 to April 21, city officials have said.

According to WSBTV, this year’s program will only apply to traffic offenses, meaning not showing up to court for code violations or other offenses will not have the failure-to-appear warrants waived.

In a statement, officials added: “This distinction is critical—only those with FTA warrants for traffic offenses qualify.

“Individuals are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to clear their eligible warrants and move forward.”

Those who wish to check if they’re eligible for the program should check the court section of the Atlanta government website.

This comes as road users all over the metro area of Atlanta, Georgia, have been receiving threatening messages demanding they pay a fine – or face the consequences.

And now, motorists in the city and the surrounding areas are being warned to ignore the “creative” new scam.

The messages, which are related to the Peach Pass – an electronic toll collection system that allows drivers to pay tolls on Georgia Express Lanes and other toll roads – are completely fake and include a malicious link.

Peach Pass spokesperson Ericka Bayonne said: “They’re getting very creative.

“They’re actually using a portion of our domain, mypeachpass.com, which of course is how our customers are able to access their accounts, but they’re adding letters and other characters behind it.”

Scammers have even managed to steal Peach Pass logos and images, making their fake website look legitimate.

However, Bayonne urged drivers to be mindful that the company would never reach out to customers in this way.

Elsewhere, a woman whose car was towed from her driveway without warning is desperate to get it back – after over a week of no leads.

Brittany Ealey of Cleveland, Ohio, is running out of options after her black 2015 Nissan Rogue was taken from her yard.

Ealey, who manages a property on Delavan Avenue on Cleveland’s East Side, revealed that her vehicle was taken on the morning of March 7.

Grainy footage captured by a home-mounted CCTV camera shows her car being hooked up and towed away.

The only thing left behind was the car’s license plate.

Proper conduct during a traffic stop

According to the ACLU, there are a few tips for ensuring a smooth traffic stop, no matter the violation.

Stop the vehicle in a safe place away from traffic as soon as possible. Kill the engine, roll down the windows, and place your hands on the driving wheel. If it’s dark outside, turn on the interior lights to give the officer a good visual. If you’re in the passenger’s seat, keep your hands visible. Only reach for your purse or wallet, registration, and proof of insurance when instructed to by the officers. Do not reach for the glove box until prompted by the officer. Do not make sudden movements. Narrate everything you’re doing, ie, “I’m reaching for my purse in the backseat.” Keep your tone calm and respectful.
