(KRON) -- Patchy low stratus covers the Bay Area this morning, with light showers across the North Bay. Rain intensity will increase across the North Bay throughout the day as a cold front arrives late afternoon. Steady rain and gusty winds spread into the rest of the Bay Area late this afternoon into Monday.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for the North Bay mountains, the North Bay valleys and coast, it is valid from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today. A second Wind Advisory has been issued for San Francisco, the San Mateo Peninsula, the Santa Cruz Mountains, and the East Bay, valid from 5 p.m. this evening to 2 a.m. Monday. In both cases, strong southerly gusts up to 45 to 50 miles per hour are expected, with the possibility for gusts up to 60 miles per hour in favored locations.
SF Mayor Lurie makes appointments to library panel, Human Services CommissionThere is a marginal risk of excessive rainfall for the northern half of Sonoma County, meaning that there is at least a 5% probability of rainfall that could cause flash floods. Rain totals in the risk area range between 0.75 to 1 inch in the lower elevations, and 1.5-3 inches in the higher elevations, with isolated totals of 4 inches possible in the Mayacamas. Other Bay Area rainfall totals range from 0.25 to 0.5 inch in the lower elevations, with totals as high as 0.75 inch in the North Bay valleys, and up to 2 inch in the coastal ranges.
Scattered showers persist through the day on Monday, and there is a chance of non-severe thunderstorms, with a 10-20% probability for thunder continuing into the afternoon before diminishing in the evening. The most likely impacts would include small hail, locally heavy downpours, and localized strong gusts.
Light rain is possible in the Bay Area on Wednesday as a new storm system arrives Wednesday, but because the storm track is shifted to the north, the Pacific Northwest and northern California will bear the brunt of the impacts with only minor impacts expected in the North Bay.
Yet another system is possible late in the week into next weekend. Temperatures remain cool to average.
