Several eagle-eyed customers and self-proclaimed store managers responsible for setting up the new signs featuring its seasonal menu items snapped pics and posted them to the social media site Reddit–along with their complaints.
Many critics alleged the company must have used artificial intelligence (AI) to generate the images, as there was "something off" about the pictures, but exactly what was unclear to the viewer.
"What is this uncanny Ai generated sign?" one wrote alongside a photo featuring two of drinks from Starbucks' fan-favorite lavender menu. "I hate it," they added.
"WHY DO WE HAVE AI SIGNS," a second asked, sharing a similar photo of the same ad, just taken from a different angle.
"Is it just me or do these look like AI?" another wrote in an equally popular post, this time showing off its new Jalapeno Chicken Pocket and beloved Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. "Why are the cups shaped so weird?"
As for the uncanny nature some customers and employees have gotten from the signage, well, that appears to be unintended. More importantly, the menu items themselves have gotten rave reviews.
