Ryan Wingo had offseason LASIK surgery in an effort to improve his eyesight, according to a report.
That’s per Texas insider Anwar Richardson, who notes the surgery came about after Texas coaches noticed he had “poor vision” during workouts. It was something he battled through during his freshman campaign in 2024, but the Longhorns are hoping he will be much-improved in that area next season.

— Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson) March 14, 2025Wingo is a former top-50 prospect who played a significant role in the Texas offense last season. He caught 29 passes for 472 yards and 2 touchdowns on the year.
However, there certainly is room for improvement. According to Pro Football Focus, Wingo dropped 4 passes last season. His drop rate of 12.1% was the worst on the team for the 2024 season.
With better eyesight, perhaps Wingo can be more sure-handed next season. The Longhorns will have plenty of opportunity available as players like Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond are off to the NFL. Golden and Bond combined for 92 receptions in 2024 so there’s quite a bit of production that needs to be replaced in the Texas WR room.
Wingo was the No. 39 overall player and the No. 8 wide receiver in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
