The ECB confirmed that Mark Wood has undergone a successful knee surgery and he would be out of action for at least four months.
Wood was recently seen in action in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where the England National Cricket Team had an awful campaign under the leadership of Jos Buttler.
Talking about Mark Wood, the dangerous pacer was quite expensive in his first match of the competition against Australia as he leaked 75 runs and bagged just one wicket.
After bowling a few overs, he started feeling discomfort and left the field. Later, he returned to the field and despite limping, he contributed with a few overs. Overall, he bowled 8 overs in the match and gave away 50 runs, going wicketless.
I’m gutted to be out for so long - Mark Wood
ECB also revealed that the express pacer had managed a knee issue for over a year but experienced increased stiffness and discomfort during the Afghanistan clash.
“I’m gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year,” said Wood. “But I’ve got every confidence that I’ll be back firing on all cylinders now that I’ve been able to sort my knee out.
Mark Wood is not part of the IPL
Wood being ruled out of cricket for four months won't have any impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is not part of any franchise in the marquee T20 league.
Meanwhile, Mark Wood will now work closely with the ECB medical team on his rehabilitation and recovery and will be aiming to make his comeback to competitive cricket by the end of July 2025.
