Cooper Flagg should stay at Duke next season, argues longtime NBA vet ...Middle East

Cooper Flagg is widely considered the presumptive No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NBA Draft.

That’s if Duke’s freshman sensation decides to put his professional dreams on hold and return to Durham for at least one more season. One notable person in that particular camp is ESPN analyst Quentin Richardson, who spent 13 seasons in the NBA.

Richardson, on ESPN’s streaming show “Countdown To GameDay”, stated that while Flagg’s “lived up to all the expectations” thus far — noting that he’s been monitoring Flagg’s career since high school —it might be worth returning to Duke.

“If I’m Cooper Flagg, I’m not sure I want to go to the Washington Wizards,” Richardson said. “That’s waiting on him, and that’s purgatory … I would stay. With the landscape what is now and the money he can make knowing that I’m looking at going to Washington, obviously I would have to consult my family and my teams … but I’m not sure that would be the worst thing for me.”

Wizards fans obviously will feel tremendously shaded by Richardson’s comments, even as the long-downtrodden franchise holds the league’s worst record and, therefore, the best odds at claiming the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Lottery.

But at the end of the day, the NIL landscape could see Flagg command serious money if he does return. And the fact that a player of his stature returning to college is being raised as a serious possibility shows how much college sports has changed in the last decade.
