Man arrested in connection with Tuesday I-880 shooting ...Middle East

(KRON) -- An Oakland man was arrested in connection with a shooting that happened on Interstate 880 on Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol said.

The shooting was reported to CHP at about 7:30 a.m. on southbound I-880 just north of 16th Avenue. The victim was not injured and returned to their home.

Officers learned the suspect may have been driving in the victim's neighborhood. The Oakland Police Department responded to the area and found the suspect car parked and empty, CHP said.

Eventually, two people entered the car and were detained. CHP determined that one of those people was the suspected shooter, 19-year-old Jonathan Julian Barragan Padilla.

Padilla was arrested for attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Padilla's home and found a loaded handgun that is believed to have been used in the shooting.

CHP did not release a motive for the shooting.
