The Cincinnati Bengals were on the wrong side of seven one-score games in 2024 and it cost them a shot at the NFL Playoffs as they finished 9-8. They have work to do in the offseason as they get ready to get back into the playoffs in 2025. Here is an offseason preview for the Bengals including free agents, potential cuts, and team needs.
Cincinnati Bengals Free Agents

So much buzz has surrounded wide receiver Tee Higgins who is set to hit free agency. Higgins had 911 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns in 2024. He’s an unrestricted free agent which means he can sign with any team unless the Bengals decide to use the franchise tag on him and bring him back for another season to work on getting a long-term deal figured out.

(The Bengals have decided to cut Sheldon Rankins. Photo: Sam Greene-USA Today Sports)The Bengals already have decided to cut defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins which will save them $9.62 million. Defensive end Sam Hubbard and offensive guard Alex Cappa could be options for cuts as well. Cappa did not enjoy a good season in 2024. Cappa allowed 15 sacks over the last three years which is the third-most by any guard in the league. Sam Hubbard has dealt with injuries and he is turning 30 which makes him a good option for a cap savings cut.

Team Needs (WR, TE, OT, DB, OG)
The Bengals have several needs they have to address heading into 2025 and those include wide receiver and defensive back. If they lose Tee Higgins, they will need to add depth to keep Joe Burrow happy and give him options besides Ja’Marr Chase. Tight end Mike Gesicki is also a free agency so there will be a need to add depth there too if he isn’t back with the Bengals.
In the secondary, the Bengals need help everywhere. They struggled making plays and slowing down anyone in 2024. Also, safety Vonn Bell is set to become a free agent. All three levels of the defense need help as the unit ranked 25th in EPA allowed per dropback. Sack leader Trey Hendrickson carried too much weight and will need help all around to improve the defense.
The offensive line isn’t losing much but they need more options as they ranked near the bottom of the league as a unit last season. The Bengals haven’t focused enough on the offensive line and that’s why we haven’t seen great improvement there in the last five years. Cincinnati has drated two or fewer offensive lineman in the top 100 over the last five drafts.
