On Sunday, March 2, the 97th Academy Awards kicked off at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Calif., with O'Brien as its host.
At one point, the former late-night personality paused the awards show to call out Sandler's questionable attire.
The camera panned to Sandler, who wore dark blue gym shorts with a lighter blue hoodie and sneakers.
Sandler exclaimed, "Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up!"
To that, O'Brien pointed out, "You're dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m., Adam."

"You know what, Conan? I like the way I look," he declared. "Because I'm a good person. I don't care about what I wear or what I don't wear."
After O'Brien attempted to apologize, Sandler announced he was leaving.
"One more thing," Sandler added.
