San Diego State came into Saturday’s game against Wyoming looking for its 13th-straight win against the Cowboys, and it took all 40 minutes to get it as the Aztecs escaped Laramie with a 72-69 win.
The game started as a dunk fest for the Aztecs, as multiple players were getting fed passes in transition which led to dunks and a 13-8 early lead for SDSU. The Aztecs, without its 7-foot starting forward Magoon Gwath for a second straight game, got a good performance early from Miles Heide, who had multiple key buckets early.

The second half was more of the same, with multiple high-intensity moments. There were three technical fouls called in less than a minute span, including two on the Aztecs. Head coach Brian Dutcher spoke postgame about what he said to the refs at that moment.
“Let’s let the players decide this,” Dutcher said postgame in an interview with San Diego Sports 760. “It is what it is.”
Following that moment of technical fouls, the Aztecs slowly built up a comfortable lead, and it would grow to eight points in the final minutes. SDSU saw clutch shot making from multiple players, including BJ Davis.

The Aztec defense showed up, and Wyoming was unable to get a shot off as the final buzzer expired.
As the Aztecs picked up its 20th win on the season, Dutcher acknowledged how hard it is to play in the elevation at Wyoming.
“Hard place to play,” Dutcher said. “I’ve been coming here 25 years, it’s never been easy. I think the altitude has something to do with it.”
The top five seeded teams in the Mountain West get a bye heading into the conference tournament, and the Aztecs (tied for 4th with Boise State) look to have that all but secured heading into the final week of the regular season.
SDSU will travel to play UNLV Tuesday before coming home to finish out the regular season on Saturday vs. Nevada.
