Cubs vs Angels — The Cubs are back on TV today, with a 2:05 Marquee (Sports Network) matchup against the Angels at Sloan. Jordan Wicks is on the bump for the Cubs and the lineup is full of regulars – and at their expected spots, no less!

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

Ian Happ, LF Kyle Tucker, RF Seiya Suzuki, DH Michel Busch, 1B Dansby Swanson, SS Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Carson Kelly, C Jon Berti, 2B Nicky Lopez, 3B

By which I mean today, Kyle Tucker is finally taking the field after making a few starts at DH. And that, in turn, means Seiya Suzuki will settle into the role he’ll fill most of the time this season. Likewise, this is very likely to be the top-six or so spots in the Cubs lineup this season, which is more or less what we expected: Ian Happ leading off, Kyle Tucker in the valuable second-spot, and then Seiya Suzuki separating the lefties (Tucker and Michael Busch) to round out the top-4

Those four, I’d guess, are locked for the top of the Cubs lineup. After that, my GUESS is that Dansby Swanson will hit fifth (he’s a righty and can be a good hitter), but it’s at least possible that it’s Nico Hoerner’s spot. In a dream scenario — maybe 1-2 months into the season — both Matt Shaw and Pete Crow-Armstrong will have established themselves as offensive weapons and can move up to 5 and 6. But I don’t think they’ll start there.

Ooook. Go Cubs. Bye.

Los Angeles Angels Lineup:

Scott Kingery, SS Tim Anderson, 2B Jorge Soler, DH Nolan Schanuel, 1B Seth Lugo, LF Nelson Rada, CF J.D. Davis, 3B Chuckie Robinson, C Gustavo Campero, RF

Pitching Matchup: Cubs vs Angels

Chicago Cubs: Jordan Wicks, LHP

Jordan Wicks is taking the mound for the Cubs this afternoon, though his path to the Opening Day rotation remains fraught. Assuming health all around, I think Wicks will likely start the year in the Iowa Cubs rotation, but as one of the first men up for spot starts along the way. And I think I prefer that to trying to force him into a bullpen role. I haven’t been shy about my faith in Wicks as a long-time mid-rotation starting pitcher and I’m taking the long view on him getting there. Plus, he’s going to get big league starts this season … pretty much no matter what. You can count on that.

Los Angeles Angels: Caden Dana, RHP
