The CBS Mornings co-host is preparing for a taste of the astronaut life, at least briefly, after it was announced on Thursday, Feb. 27 that she'd be joining the first all-female flight crew on the next Blue Origin flight to the edge of space—literally.
62 miles above the Earth lies the Kármán line, which formally marks the separation between the planet's atmosphere and space. King's flight will serve as the 11th New Shepard mission manned by humans, although, thanks to the organization's autonomous aircraft, nobody will be piloting it.
The launch, which is expected to take place this spring, will also include "I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Jeff Bezos'—who founded Blue Origin and has previously traveled on a mission—fiancée Lauren Sánchez.
First up is space tourism, which he claims there is a marked interest in. Despite the costly experience—the company collects a "$150,000 USD fully refundable deposit" to reserve a spot—he claimed "there’s no buyer’s remorse."
