LSU coach Brian Kelly will reportedly have to replace a key assistant on his staff.

Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune broke the news Thursday morning that LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis is expected to join the New Orleans Saints.

The #Saints are expected to hire Bo Davis to be their defensive line coach, according to a league source, adding another coach from the college ranks. Davis most recently worked as the DL coach at LSU and is considered one of the NCAA's better DL coaches.

Davis, 54, returned to LSU, his alma mater, ahead of the 2024 season. He has been in coaching since 1995 and has extensive experience at the college and pro levels.

Davis played at LSU from 1990-92. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Tigers in 1995.

After a few seasons as an assistant coach at North Shore High School (1998-2001), Davis returned to LSU to serve as assistant strength and conditioning coach under Nick Saban in 2002.

Davis was retained by Les Miles but left to reunite with Saban as the Miami Dolphins’ assistant defensive line coach in 2006. Davis then followed Saban to Alabama for his first stint as the Crimson Tide’s defensive line coach (2007-10).

Davis had multiple stops at Alabama (2007-10; 2014-15), Texas (2011-13; 2021-23) and LSU (1995-97; 2002-05; 2024). He has NFL experience from his time with the Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars (intern, 2016) and Detroit Lions (defensive line coach, 2018-20).

We’ll see how LSU chooses to address Davis’ expected departure.
