Berhampur: An IMFL shop owner was arrested by Berhampur Police for allegedly assaulting an excise constable.

The shop owner has been identified as Manoranjan Sabat (48) of Brajaraj Nagar, Panigrahipentho near Kali Mandir Road under Bada Bazar PS, Berhampur

The IMFL-Off shop namely ‘FRIENDS WINE SHOP’ near BSNL office under licence of one Bandana Sahu of Berhampur was sealed by Excise Dept due to MGQ issues. The shop was run by Manoranjan Sabat.

After its closure, in a side room accused persons were selling IMFL illegally by keeping the stock in the sealed IMFL off shop. On 14.10.24, while the Excise Constable Sabyasachi Mishra was checking the shop, some sales boys assaulted him and in this connection Berhampur Town PS case No-297/24 was registered and 6 accused persons were arrested on 16.10.2024 and forwarded to court. Huge quantities of illegally stored IMFL bottles worth about Rs 1 Lakh were seized in the shop.

On 26.02.2025 afternoon when Berhampur Town Police went to the shop for verification of same and vacating the room it was found that all seized IMFL stock was stolen by the accused persons who were arrested earlier. Hence after prima-facie evidence was well established, Berhampur Town Police arrested Manoranjan Sabat, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
