The Chicago Bulls’ latest injury report remains packed.
Jalen Smith has been ruled out of his third-straight game after suffering a hit to the head in the Bulls’ loss to the New York Knicks on Feb. 20. The Bulls continue to list him as being in concussion protocol. His next chance to return will be on Friday against the Toronto Raptors. With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bulls decide to give Smith an additional game off whenever he is allowed to exit protocol for conditioning purposes. It’s unclear how much he’s been able to do behind the scenes over the last week.
If one thing is for sure, the Bulls could use his size back on the floor sooner than later. Starting big man Nikola Vucevic also joined the injury report ahead of Monday’s meeting with the 76ers. He entered the day absent from the injury report before appearing as “probable” in the afternoon with calf soreness. The Bulls proceeded to rule him shortly before tip-off and have him listed as “doubtful” for tonight’s matchup with the Clippers.
While Los Angeles may not be the deepest in the frontcourt, they do have one of the more physically imposing centers in the league. Ivica Zubac has put together a career year, ranking top 3 in total rebounds and second in field goal percentage among players with at least 300 made field goals. Zach Collins (who is “probable” with a shin injury) will surely have his hands full trying to keep Zubac in check tonight.
The good news is that Ayo Dosunmu has at least been upgraded to “questionable” after being ruled out well before the Bulls’ battle with Philly. He has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury. Despite the team’s loaded backcourt, I’m sure Billy Donovan would like to see Dosunmu back on the floor sooner rather than later. His defensive discipline and length would especially come in handy with James Harden on the other side of the ball.
Speaking of which, it looks like Lonzo Ball will be able to take on a portion of that assignment. His availability felt up in the air after exiting Monday’s game with a head laceration, but the veteran is not on the injury report today and is expected to suit up.
As for the Clippers, they come in surprisingly healthy. Norman Powell’s absence will present some problems offensively, but Kawhi Leonard is currently in line to play for only the 17th time this season.
