On Draymond Green’s podcast, Kevin Durant explains why he was against trade to Warriors ...Middle East

The last time we in these spaces wrote about Draymond Green’s podcast, it was because of his beef with then-Suns center Jusuf Nurkic that also brought Phoenix teammate Kevin Durant into the mix.

Durant joined his former Golden State Warriors teammate’s podcast, which was published on Wednesday, to explain why they aren’t teammates once again.

No, it isn’t because they still have beef.

Durant was reportedly shopped by the Suns and nearly traded back to the Warriors before the trade deadline earlier this month. He reportedly expressed apprehension and Golden State pivoted to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat instead. While Durant told ESPN previously that he didn’t ask for a trade, the Suns star went into detail with Green about why it didn’t make sense for him, Golden State or Phoenix.

“I want my career to end on my terms. That’s the only thing I’m worried about. I see a lot of dudes that don’t get the opportunity,” Durant said on The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. “But as far as the Warriors, I didn’t want to move and a player like me, I cost a lot. Me going to your team, it’s going to be a whole new era to your team when I get to your team.

“My contract and just my production, me just getting up and moving in the middle of the season, it’s going to be a big blow to any team I’m going to. It’s like, I get why y’all want to trade me and why y’all looking at it,” he added. “It just doesn’t make sense for either side right now to go through it. We play the season out and if that’s the decision (the Suns) want to make in the offseason, then you figure it out. It’s just such a big change to make and I’ve been through it before and I’m like, that ain’t really it.”

How did Kevin Durant nix a potential trade from the Suns to the Warriors?

ESPN has reported that as rumors of negotiations between the Warriors and Suns advanced before the Feb. 6 trade deadline, Durant and Golden State star Stephen Curry discussed the possibility of teaming up again.

Durant, according to ESPN, told Curry it didn’t “feel right” and it “wasn’t the time” to move cities. That message was relayed to the Warriors’ front office.

On his podcast released this week, Green pointed out that teams take star players’ feelings seriously. Going against that would risk giving the team a bad reputation for future stars, he said.

Golden State didn’t want to take the risk of acquiring a star who didn’t want to be there and quickly shifted away from trading for Durant.

“If I can stop it, then why not?” Durant told Green. “I didn’t feel like it was a need to make that big of a change right now. I’m glad. Look at what y’all doing right now.

“I just want to see it through (in Phoenix),” Durant added. “I’m trying to see this through to the end and see what we can do to it. I feel like I’m committed to my coaches and my teammates.”

Since adding Butler at the deadline, the Warriors are 6-1.

The Suns are 2-6 since the trade deadline.
