Lester Holt is stepping down from the NBC Nightly News anchor’s seat after a decade.
The face of the network’s news division has been with the company since 2000 and will stick around in an expanded role with Dateline NBC, but he’s passing off the nightly broadcast duties after a storied career behind the desk.
So when will Holt officially say goodbye to the NBC Nightly News? Well, that part hasn’t been worked out yet.
Holt announced his intention to step down from the NBC Nightly News on February 24, but will remain the lead anchor until this summer. NBC has not named Holt’s replacement yet.
Holt said in an NBC memo announcing his decision. “As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”
We’ll update this post as soon as we have more information about the plan for both Holt and NBC.
