After a strong season, the Los Angeles Rams are looking to fine-tune their roster and make another deep playoff run. With key positions needing reinforcements, free agency presents a prime opportunity to add impact players. Here are the top five free agents the Rams should target this offseason.

The Rams could use an upgrade in the secondary, and D.J. Reed has been a reliable and durable option for the Jets in recent seasons, missing only five games in three years with New York. Reed was a No. 2 opposite Sauce Gardner in New York and allowed an opposing passer rating of only 87.1, even with opposing quarterbacks looking his way while trying to avoid Gardner. Reed logged 11 passes defended and 64 tackles with the Jets in 2024 and is at the top of a cornerback market that really doesn’t feature a ton of star power.
2. Will Fries — G, Indianapolis Colts
The Rams have a healthy amount of cap room, so expect them to also look at a guard. Assuming they spend to retain Alaric Jackson at tackle, a tier-two guard such as Will Fries makes sense. Fries is coming off a tibia injury in October that required surgery and ended his season. When healthy, he’s one of the top guards in the league, but he’ll come in at a lesser price than Smith. PFF has him pegged at $14.3 million AAV for four years.
3. Darius Slayton — WR, New York Giants
The Cooper Kupp era in Los Angeles is ending, and Demarcus Robinson and Tutu Atwell are both free agents, leaving Puka Nakua as the lone receiving threat in the Rams wide receivers room unless they re-sign one or both Robinson and Atwell. Re-signing one of the two and spending on a mid-tier free-agent wide receiver could make sense for Los Angeles.
Darius Slayton has consistently produced solid WR2 numbers with 700 yards and 15 yards per reception in four of his first five seasons in the league. At 28, PFF has him projected to command a three-year deal with an AAV of $12.5 million. Nakua, Slayton, and one of Robinson or Atwell seem like a good look for that group in 2025.

Justin Fields played serviceably during his brief stint as the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh but showed many of the same warts that led to the Chicago Bears moving on from him. Still, Matthew Stafford isn’t going to be around forever, so taking a flyer on Fields and seeing if Sean McVay can coach him up at a reasonable price point seems like a more productive move than retaining Jimmy Garoppolo in that spot.
5. Stephon Gilmore — CB, Minnesota Vikings
I listed D.J. Reed at the top, but if the Rams want to go the cheaper route at that spot, Stephon Gilmore is on the market, and while 2024 wasn’t stellar for Gilmore, he’s a reliable veteran option that fits in most cornerback rooms at a reasonable price point.
