The CHP officer stopped the driver about 9:55 p.m. on Feb. 19, after they said they saw him going more than 100 mph in a 2018 Honda Accord on westbound Interstate 580 near Dublin, Hahn said.
The officer noticed a harsh smell of marijuana when he went to the driver’s window and asked for a license and registration, Hahn said. The driver also had a number of trash bags in plain view that were filled with marijuana, Hahn said.
The officer called in a back-up unit to assist, and Hahn said they found more than 200 pounds of marijuana and $36,703 in cash.
Officers booked the person into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. It was unclear early Monday whether the driver still was in custody.
