According to Aurora Fire Rescue, crews arrived at about 4:15 p.m. to find two semitrucks fully engulfed in fire that was also impacting the outside of a commercial building at 19754 E. 34th Dr. The agency said the fire prompted a second alarm, which means the agency requested additional aid and equipment to control the blaze.

The building appears to be occupied by Victory Packaging, a commercial packaging supply store.

At about 5 p.m., Aurora Fire Rescue said the fire was under control. The agency said there were two semitrucks destroyed in the blaze and another two that were damaged. The fire stretched into the loading dock of the building but was controlled by the building sprinkler system and firefighters.

The agency said at about 5:50 p.m. that investigators learned the fire was started by a malfunctioning refrigeration unit on a semitruck. The South Metro Fire Rescue hazmat team was working to mitigate a diesel fuel spill and another crew was venting smoke from the building.

Also in the area is an automotive paint supply warehouse, a couple of other distribution warehouses and an Amazon warehouse. The area is north of Interstate 70 near Tower Road.

South Metro Fire Rescue crews encountered a "significant" traffic jam when the fire was at its peak, and said many motorists were stopped in traffic to take photos and videos.

"Please help our first responders by leaving roadways and driveways clear of vehicles and pedestrians near emergency scenes," Aurora Fire Rescue said.
