Hirson passed away from natural causes on Friday, Feb. 21, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, her son David Hirson told The Hollywood Reporter. She had apparently been staying at the hospital for a year.
Hirson was born Alice Corinne Thorsell in Brooklyn, New York, on March 10, 1929, and went on to graduate American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1948.
In 1976, she moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a movie and TV career, eventually landing guest spots on such series as Maude, The Waltons, Family, Barnaby Jones, Dallas, Flamingo Road, Barney Miller, Murphy Brown, One Life to Live, General Hospital, St. Elsewhere and NYPD Blue in addition to Full House. She was also a regular on the 1992 NBC sitcom Home Fires and had a recurring role on The WB-CW drama 7th Heaven from 1996-2006.
From 1994-98 she starred in 28 episodes of Ellen as Lois Morgan, Ellen DeGeneres' mother.
David Hirson, who is a Broadway playwright, told The Hollywood Reporter that his mother thought of herself as a stage actress primarily and praised her for raising a family while working long hours on TV.
