FORD is adding an extra layer of security to its vehicles to help protect customers against the millions of cars stolen yearly.

The American car manufacturer shared details on its brand-new theft prevention feature, which will only cost drivers $7.99 per month.

Ford’s F-Series truck has been one of Kelly Blue Book’s best-selling trucks for five decades, meaning it is also one of the most commonly stolen vehicles.

In 2023, the F-150 was in the top ten of most commonly stolen cars with over 15,000 vehicles being stolen, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).

To help protect Americans against theft, Ford announced its new security package.

The package, already available in 22 European countries and Canada, works on the F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks.

For the monthly fee, Ford drivers will be able to receive theft and tampering notifications, a 24/7 stolen vehicle hotline, and insurance reimbursement of up to $2,500.

The theft and tampering notifications are already available on the FordPass App for owners of eligible 2024 models, and the notifications will be activated if the vehicle is believed to have been tampered with.

If a Ford owner needs immediate assistance, they can contact a dedicated 800 number and speak to a live agent who will contact law enforcement for you and try to find the truck.

Drivers are eligible to receive the $2,500 insurance if thieves are still able to hack the security package.

Plus, if all those features aren’t enough, drivers can also access a new Start Inhibit feature.

The Start Inhibit feature, available on 2025 F-150 and Super Duty models, allows Ford owners to have full control of their car directly from their FordPass App.

On the app, drivers can prevent unauthorized starts, even if the person starting the car has a key nearby for it.

“Our vision for security at Ford is to one day build an unstealable vehicle,” Christian Moran, general manager of Safety and Security Services at Ford, told Detroit Free Press.

“Thieves are using increasingly sophisticated methods to steal vehicles, and it’s important that our system simultaneously introduces physical, electronic, and communication-based barriers to a thief’s success,” Moran continued.

“And if the worst happens to your vehicle, we’ll be there with insurance deductible reimbursement to make it right.”

All of the security measures Ford is taking help when the car is stolen, but there are other measures drivers can take to prevent theft altogether.

The NICB offers several guidelines for Americans looking to secure their vehicles.

Ford Security Package

For $7.99/month the security package includes:

Theft and tampering notifications on the app Start Inhibit A 24/7 hotline staffed by live agents who work with authorities to help recover a stolen vehicle Insurance reimbursement on a stolen vehicle

These security measures include parking in well-lit areas, locking windows and doors, hiding valuables, and keeping track of where you put your keys.

If your car is stolen, the NICB advises victims to immediately report it to the police and their insurance companies.

Drivers have a higher likelihood of retrieving their stolen cars if they report it to the police on the first day of the theft, according to NICB data.

Before filing a report, make sure you have all of the necessary information and documentation of your vehicle, including the VIN and license plate numbers.
