"If you look at most of the younger teams, they don't have a lot of life experience, and so sometimes it can affect a younger team's ability to do well," the host explains. "Going back to say, Meredith and Gretchen, they were 69 and 66 at the time. They were the oldest team to ever make it into the final four. Generally speaking, our teams that win are younger. Kim and Penn were our oldest team on average to win. They were 46 on average. We've obviously had some father/son teams like Dave and Connor win. But look, the reality is there is a direct correlation between how long somebody has lived and how much experience they have, and then how interesting they are. I think people do get more interesting as they get older. It's just a fact. You're gonna get more interesting."Below, Keoghan gives his thoughts on this season's interesting teams, including who one of his "new favorite" duos is, and who stands the best chance to cross the finish line first. The Amazing Race 37 premieres with a 90-minute episode on Wednesday, March 5, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.Related: Everything We Know About The Amazing Race Season 37
Alyssa Borden (L) and Josiah Borden (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Alyssa Borden and Josiah Borden – Married nurse anesthetists from Philadelphia, PA
Very in love, very compatible. There's something pretty special about the two of them as far as the connection that they have. Both very fit. Alyssa played D1 soccer. She's been an athlete; she's more of an athlete than Josiah is. And she's also–Josiah says himself–smarter than him, so she's she's got a lot going for her. But regardless, he's a lovely guy. The two of them are the sort of happy-go-lucky, very compatible you want. I mean, they're not a team that you're going to expect to see fireworks between. They're very much more about, "Well, what do you think? What should we do?" But they're good communicators, and they're going to do well, just because of the fact that they really, really adore each other and they get on.
Bernie Gutierrez (L) and Carrigain Scadden (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Bernie Gutierrez and Carrigain Scadden – Friends from Dallas, TX and Denver, CO
Here, we've got a couple of short fuses, definitely. If the tension goes up, you're going to see some emotion. We enjoyed having them on the show, for sure. But they are almost the antithesis as far as Alyssa and Josiah go. They wear their emotions on their sleeves, and they don't hold back. They let it out, and they let it out with each other.
Brett Hamby (L) and Mark Romain (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Brett Hamby and Mark Romain – Married Vegas performers from Las Vegas, NV
Look, if there's a dancing competition, anything to do with movement strength, expect to see them do very well. They pick things up really, really quickly. How could they not when you consider Brett is working with Cirque du Soleil and Mark being a dancer? So, any of those types of challenges are easy for them. Both very compatible. But I would say Mark is not scared to speak his mind. He does so throughout the season. He likes to just call things as they are. And there's a few games that go on, a few social games that go on this season. And Mark definitely doesn't hold back from just saying it like he sees it. In a good way! It makes it interesting.
Carson McCalley (L) and Jack Dodge (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge – Best friends and gamers from Brooklyn, NY
Very good, very strategic. We'll see how they get on with the more physical side of things. They admit that they like to be inside and play games. But I think they underestimate their physical fitness. I think they're fitter than they probably think they are. They're still definitely compatible. But great friends, a lot of smiles, a lot of laughs. Emotional, but a lot of laughs. I like to see when teams have a really good time. They're definitely out for a good time.
Courtney Ramsey (L) and Jasmin Carey (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Courtney Ramsey and Jasmin Carey – Dating nurses from Leland, NC
Two people who knew each other for a while [and] didn't really realize that they were as compatible as they were, and then ended up together. I don't want to say it was a surprise to both of them. But I think when they first met, initially, they didn't necessarily see themselves as a couple, just really good friends. And then they became this couple, and now they're together. Very compatible, smart, obviously. So good at working things out. It's so fun to line them all up at the beginning of the show and to address and look around. And they had probably the biggest smiles on their face before we started. They were super excited.Related: Meet the Full Cast of The Amazing Race 37
Ernest Cato (L) and Bridget Cato (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Ernest Cato and Bridget Cato – Father and daughter from Chicago, IL and Somerville, MA
This reminds me of–in a different way. But if you remember, going back, Ron and Christina. That dynamic of a father and a daughter, where the father or the parent has taken a leadership role and been in charge of the child most of the time that they have been together. And then, all of a sudden, they're out on Amazing Race, and it's sort of like, "Okay, do you see me as an equal? Will you listen to me if I want to do things a different way? Can we do things my way if I feel like they are the best way?" So this is the fun thing. Ernest definitely sees Bridget as his little "bubblegum," as he calls her, as his little girl. So it's just really interesting to see what happens to them on the race where he kind of realizes, "Well, she's not so much a little girl as a young woman."
Han Nguyen (L) and Holden Nguyen (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Han Nguyen and Holden Nguyen – Siblings from Los Gatos, CA
They delivered in a way that was different from what I expected. Because they're brother and sister, but there's a lot of rivalry. And I really thought that there might be more conflict between them, where they were sort of struggling. Han is definitely more of the dominant one in the team dynamic. She takes more of a leadership role. But what you end up seeing is this really cool brother/sister relationship. They're way more competitive and compatible than I anticipated them to be. And way older, way more mature than I thought a lot of times. Take someone like Holden. He's 22 years old. He's a wise old soul. Even though he's young, he's sort of a wise old soul. I like them as a team. They're fun to watch.
Jackye Clayton (L) and Lauren McKinney (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Jackye Clayton and Lauren McKinney – Sisters from Waco, TX
Well, there's this great moment in Episode 1 where they take on a physical challenge that they would never have taken on in their everyday life. And watching the other day live in Atlanta with SCAD, the audience getting behind the two of them take on this challenge, and the way that they encouraged each other and the way that they they got through this challenge and achieved the challenge and stayed competitive in the in the first leg was very heartfelt. I think they're the team that the audience will feel something. They created a lot of heartfelt moments. Ironically, their photograph, I think, making the heart together. This is a great sister relationship, and you can't beat it. They're like soulmates.
Jonathan Towns (L) and Ana Towns (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Jonathan Towns and Ana Towns – Married parents from Pomona, CA
This is one of the more interesting relationships, dynamic relationships, that we've ever had. He would be the hardest on himself of anybody that I can think of who's ever been on the race. If he's not first, in his mind, he's eliminated. He's one of those competitors that second is basically the first loser. So he is really, really tough on himself. If he doesn't outright win and beat everybody, he beats up on himself pretty badly. So one of the things that I was trying to communicate to him was, "There's a lot of really competitive teams. You're not always going to get first." And so I think with them, they've got a lot of stuff to figure out. They've been on again and off again in their relationship for a while. So I think there's a lot of stuff that they've got to work through, and they did on the race. There's a lot of stuff that we see actually happen like that. We see the relationship changing between the two of them, and it starts off quite different from the way that it ends up at the end. It's it's an interesting relationship to watch. They're tough. He's very tough on himself.
Mark Crawford (L) and Larry Graham (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Mark Crawford and Larry Graham – Best friends from Watertown, TN and Bartlett, TN
You know that whole thing, don't judge a book by its cover? These two are quite emotional about their friendship, particularly Larry. You're going to see some tears when he talks about his friend, and Mark being there for him as a friend. They're super close. When you see that kind of friendship, it makes you think, "Do I have a friend that's as dedicated and as caring as they are for each other?" Because they really do love each other. And one of my favorite things about them is their accents. They've got great accents. I love accents. So yeah, they got a good one. Especially Larry's got a real strong one.Related: The Amazing Race 36 Winners Ricky Rotandi and César Aldrete Break Down Their Record-Breaking Run
Melinda Papadeas (L) and Erika Papadeas (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Melinda Papadeas and Erika Papadeas – Mother and daughter from Chandler, AZ and Englewood, CO
A lot of times people come in, they oversell themselves. They talk about how they're going to win. And I think I've told you before, the number one thing I hear at the mat is always, "I had no idea this was going to be this hard." That's literally the number one thing I hear. These two undersell themselves. As soon as they saw the other teams, they're like, "We're probably going to get crushed by these people. We're not going to be able to keep up." Erika's more positive about how they're going to do, and Melinda's being worried about whether she's going to be able to keep up with her daughter. So they're not the team that went into the race being like, "We're going to crush it. We're going to win." They went into it more like, "We want to be in this as long as we can. We want to do the best that we can." Erika really trying to encourage her mother. But they surprised each other with just how well they did, and it makes for some great moments on the show and an interesting dynamic. Totally different from what I personally expected we were going to see from them.
Nick Fio (L) and Mike Fio (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Nick Fiorito and Mike Fiorito – Brothers from Brooklyn, NY
They literally have been trying to get on the show for seven years. And they're one of my all-time favorite teams, just because they have such a genuine desire and passion to be on The Amazing Race. And they never gave up. They just stuck with it. They just kept coming back at us. There's something about brotherly love and these two. They just make you smile. They really genuinely care about each other. They're just so, so excited about being on the race after seven years of trying. There's this moment in the first episode where they're driving, and they just say to each other, "Oh my god, this is really happening. We are on The Amazing Race." They can't quite believe it. But I think it's a really wonderful lesson for those people who say, "Oh yeah, I tried to get on The Amazing Race once. I sent in an application." I'm like, "Well, you gotta keep trying!" These guys really do prove that once is not enough. Sometimes, you gotta just keep going and keep on going. And in the end, they won us over, and they got a great sense of humor about it, too.
Jeff "Pops" Bailey (L) and Jeff Bailey (R)Sonja Flemming/CBS
Jeff "Pops" Bailey and Jeff Bailey – Father and son from St. Louis, MS
Little Jeff is so proud of his father. They're both in the same business. The physical strength these guys have would have been perfect for Tough as Nails. Pops is 65; you do not see 65-year-olds in this kind of condition. And those builds are from work, hard work. And there's a challenge early on where Pops crushes it just using those arms at the beginning. At the starting line of the premiere, I was so taken aback by the size of their biceps. I said to Pops. "How did you get your legs onto your arms like that?" They're distracting! And little Jeff's arms are even bigger. But Pops, his arms are more cut, and they literally look like they managed to get their legs on their arms somehow.
