Expeditious trial was required in criminal matters but it should not be conducted in undue haste without giving reasonable time to the accused to defend himself, the SC said on Wednesday. It set aside the a trial court order which wrapped up proceedings within a fortnight & awarded death sentence to the accused in a rape-murder case of a nine-year-old girl in 2013.
