MEGA Millions gamblers have been urged to double check their tickets as a $1 million prize still remains unclaimed.
Lotto bosses in Pennsylvania warned the gambler should sign their slip immediately.
A Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million hasn’t been cashed inGettyThe ticket, which matched five numbers, was sold ahead of the draw on Valentine’s Day.
The gambler, who has a year to come forward, missed the jackpot prize by one number, as reported by the ABC affiliate WHTM-TV.
The player bought the ticket from an A to Z convenience store in Camp Hill, officials said.
And, the store is in line to pocket an impressive $5,000 for selling the ticket.
If the ticket isn’t claimed by February next year, then the prize will vanish.
But, when the player comes forward, they will be powerless to stop any deductions.
That’s because 24% will be wiped from the sum for federal taxes.
But, the deductions do not end there in terms of payment to the Internal Revenue Service.
In Pennsylvania, winners must pay 3.07% to the state.
This will equate to around $30,000.
But, the 3.07% state tax rate is not the highest tax gamblers have to pay on their winnings.
It is actually one of the lowest levels of taxation a gambler has to pay.
The amount is not uniform across the country.
In New York, for example, players have to shell out more than 10% to the state in taxes.
Gamblers in New Jersey and Oregon have to pay 8% to the state.
But, winners in California, Florida and Texas enjoy a reprieve.
That’s because their prizes are not taxed at the state level.
The Mega Millions jackpot wasn’t won, which means the prize pot continues to roll over.
It now stands at $165 million ahead of the draw on Friday.
So far, there has only been one Mega Millions jackpot winner in 2025.
The slip, worth $1.269 billion, was bought by a player in Arizona
