A brainy idea
Cupertino High School is among 50 U.S. public middle and high schools moving forward as state winners in the 15th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow national STEM competition. Cupertino High was awarded a $12,000 Samsung technology prize package, including a video kit to showcase their proposed STEM solution.
The students on Cupertino High School’s team developed Neuropod, a user-friendly, non-invasive EEG device designed to make brain health monitoring accessible and affordable. Through Neuropod, the team hopes to democratize brain health monitoring, making it available to those who need it most but often lack the resources to access traditional EEG technology.
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is a national competition for students in grades 6-12 to use STEM education to create solutions for critical issues in their local communities.
As a group, this year’s state winners showed that they are most concerned with environmental sustainability and climate disasters (28%), public health (26%) and accessibility (20%), followed by public safety and mental health. Their entries used technologies like AI (42%), 3D printing (34%) and robotics (14%) to bring their ideas to life.
