AMERICANS could be in store for a one-time payment in a $975k surcharge settlement from a popular tourist attraction.
You don’t even need any proof to cash in on the fund – as long as you bought a ticket during a two-year window.
The operator of One World Observatory has been accused of applying undisclosed fees to electronic ticketsRex GettyThe company has agreed to pay out almost a million dollars to affected customers[/caption]A company called Legends OWO has agreed to pay almost a million dollars to resolve claims about the fees on tickets to its attraction.
The company is behind the One World Observatory in New York City – the tourist attraction at the top of the One World Trade Center in Manhattan.
The company has been accused of failing to disclose certain fees, meaning customers ended up paying more than they expected.
According to the lawsuit, Legends OWO failed to disclose ticket processing fees before buyers selected tickets for purchases.
This, the case alleges, violated New York law which requires fees to be disclosed before ticket selection.
The settlement sum could benefit anyone who bought an electronic ticket to the observatory between August 29, 2022 and November 6, 2024.
To have a valid claim, you must have paid a fee added on to the transaction when purchasing through Legend OWO’s website.
Legends OWO have not admitted any wrongdoing through the settlement – opting instead to resolve with a financial payout.
Under the terms of the case, claimants can receive a proportional share of the settlement sum based on how much they paid in ticket processing fees.
That means the exact amount each person receives will vary depending on the fees they paid, and how many people claim from the pot.
Those who paid higher ticket processing fees will receive a larger share of the money.
The deadline to exclude yourself from or object to the case is January 10.
The final approval hearing is set for March 7.
And the important date is April 21, because this is the deadline for submitting claims.
Hundreds of Americans are also eligible for a chunk of a multi-million dollar payout after being impacted by a data breach.
It comes after a class action lawsuit was filed against an accounting and consultancy firm based in Maine, accusing it of failing to adequately protect personal information from hackers.
Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker and Reliable Networks, an IT service provider contracted with Berry Dunn, are accused of failing customers in a data breach on or around September 14, 2023.
In agreeing to settle the dispute with a $7.25 million payout, the companies have not admitted to any wrongdoing.
The lawsuit claims that in the leak, the protected health data and personally identifiable information of over 100 consumers was compromised.
