There are just four players remaining in The Welsh Open 2025 as the competition heads into its penultimate round.
Mark Selby saw off John Higgins in a close-fought quarter-final match and will now face Luca Brecel in his bid for the title.
“We both struggled and brought each other down, there were a lot of scrappy frames,” Selby told World Snooker.
“If one of us had played better, the other might have raised his game. The only positive for me is that I got over the line and I can only improve tomorrow.
“If I had lost I would have been gutted, but now I can put that behind me.”
The other semi-final tie will see Stephen Maguire, who beat Jack Lisowski 5-3, take on Ali Carter, who also won his quarter-final match 5-3 against Joe O’Connor.
Maguire hasn’t exactly been satisfied with his performance during the tournament, describing his win over Sanderson Lam as “embarrassing”.
“It was terrible,” he said (via The Daily Record). “For a player of my standard, that needs to be better. I’ll phone wee [John] Higgins and see if he wants to go for a meal, get a bit of a pep talk.
“But I’m into the quarter-finals, great. It was embarrassing, I was terrible and I probably deserved to lose the match.”
