NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett was very vocal about what direction the Phoenix Suns need to go in this offseason on the KG Certified Podcast (Warning: Explicit) on Monday.
Garnett said that the Suns’ Big 3 experiment between Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal is over and that the team needs to make changes in the offseason.
“I think Phoenix needs a makeover,” Garnett said. “I think the experiment is over. You’ve got three players playing the same way that need the same thing. They need space.”

Garnett added that if the Suns have another early exit from the postseason this year, Durant could be moved by the Suns during the offseason. He’s not the only one thinking that, either, with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst telling ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday that he expects Durant and Phoenix will work together on finding him a new home after the season is over.
“He’s probably going to get traded this summer. He knows it, the Suns know it, the rest of the league knows it,” Windhorst said. “They’re going to enjoy it while they have him. It’s not really controversial in all honesty. They’re under .500, they have a $230 million payroll then add about $100 million in tax on that.
“You have an extremely expensive team that is not winning and their player, who is their most expensive player, is playing great but not impacting them on a positive level. You do not need a high-level analyst to tell you that they probably need to trade him, which is why they were exploring the trade market for him.”
Durant was the subject of trade rumors during this year’s NBA trade deadline, including reports linking a possible trade that would have seen the 15-time All-Star traded to the Golden State Warriors where he won two championships and two finals MVPs in 2017 and 2018.
However, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported on Feb. 5 that Durant had showed no interest in reuniting with Golden State nor any interest in being traded at all.
The 36-year-old is under contract for $54.7 million in 2025-26.
The Suns (26-28) are currently 11th in the Western Conference, one game behind the Golden State Warriors for the final play-in spot.
On top of Garnett’s thoughts on Durant, he also went in on Beal coming off the bench for the Suns, saying it’s not the right fit for the team.
“You had him in the starting lineup, then you had him coming off the bench. I don’t like how they’re using Bradley Beal. I don’t like him coming off the bench, and then I think there’s enough offense that you all can find for him,” Garnett said.
