Anaheim briefs: Teens can visit Anaheim’s Sister City in Japan ...Middle East

Here is an opportunity for students to learn, explore and serve with the Anaheim Sister City student exchange program.

An exchange trip with Sister City Mito, Japan, is open to current Anaheim freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested in continuing the relationship that dates back to 1984. Applications are being accepted until Feb. 28 for the summertime trip.

Fun at the library

The Anaheim Central Library has some fun special programs planned the rest of this month.

At 11 a.m. on Thursday is Tiny Yogis, introducing children up to age 4 to yoga. At 5 p.m. on Feb. 26, there is a bilingual story time in Vietnamese and English for families with young children.

At 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 there will be a Literary Salon with Poet Laureate Camille Hernandez.

Anaheim Beautiful property awards

Nominations are open for Anaheim Beautiful’s March awards recognizing efforts for the beautification of property in town. These properties have taken extra steps to make their property beautiful.

Shred Day coming up

Now is the time to get rid of all that extra paper that you don’t want to store.

Local real estate agent Meghan Shigo is having a public shred day on Feb. 22 at her office, 351 E. Center St. Bring your papers for shredding!

Also, downtown Anaheim residents are encouraged to schedule their yard sale with the entire neighborhood on March 1.

Yard sales may be open from 7 a.m. to noon. Meghan Shigo is promoting the yard sale and creating a map to share with interested shoppers.

Rummage around at Anaheim United Methodist Church

The Anaheim United Methodist Church is hosting the second weekend of its annual rummage sale.

Shopping will be open at the church, 1000 S. State College Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 15.

Play a round of golf for student athletes

A golf tournament to benefit Anaheim High athletics is scheduled for Feb.17 at the Western Hills Golf & Country Club.

The cost to play is $150 per person and $600 for foursomes; it is $20 for dinner only. Sponsors are needed and proceeds go to support Anaheim High School programs.

Annual Children’s Festival is in the planning

The Anaheim Children’s Festival will be celebrating 34 years this spring.

Everyone is invited to this free event and Anaheim and Orange County organizations are encouraged to have a booth at the May 17 festival to be held at Pearson Park.

Nonprofit and for-profit groups are encouraged to join the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in bringing the arts to our Anaheim and Orange County families. Easy sign up is available on the  muzeo.org website. Entertainers are also encouraged to sign up and join the fun onstage.

Square Dance Club looking for dancers

The Shirts ‘N Skirts Square Dance Club is based in Anaheim and holds regular dances at the Anaheim United Methodist Church.

A new square dance class will be beginning in Orange in February and you can join the fun.  Classes will begin Feb. 20 and be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Simpson Youth Center, 2400 North Canal S., Orange.

Pound the pavement in Walk4ALZ

The annual walk to benefit Alzheimer’s Orange County is coming up on March 15.

Walk4ALZ will be held at Anaheim Stadium with people of all ages coming together to raise funds and awareness for those affected by Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia.
