Lotto bosses issue warning as $100,000 Powerball prize still unclaimed – the money will vanish in a week ...Middle East

POWERBALL players have been urged to check all of their places where they store tickets as a $100,000 prize is on the verge of expiry.

Oregon lotto chiefs have warned how the money will disappear if the slip is not cashed in within the next week.

The ticket was sold in Brooks – located around 58 miles from Portland – ahead of a draw in February last year.

And, the clock is ticking as the slip will become worthless if it’s not cashed in by February 21.

The player landed a $100,000 prize – which means they matched four numbers and the Powerball.

This would’ve normally landed them a prize of $50,000 but it was doubled as they purchased the Power Play.

They defied the odds of one in around 913,000 to land the feat.

Chiefs have issued gamblers in the state to check they’ve not got any unclaimed tickets lying about.

“We’ve had players find tickets worth millions of dollars in car glove boxes, in the pocket of an old pair of jeans, and at the bottom of a purse,” Heidi Quiring, of the Oregon Lottery, said.

“It’s time to see if you have a winner tucked away somewhere. After a year, the prizes can no longer be claimed.”

The $100,000 prize is not the only sum that hasn’t been claimed.

A slew of tickets, worth $50,000, have also not been cashed in.

These will expire on March 11, April 3 and April 13.

But, if the $100,000 ticket holder does come forward, they will face significant deductions.

They will lose almost a quarter of their prize to the IRS in tax.

The gambler will be forced to hand over $24,000 to the feds, and the deductions do not end there.

And, Oregon is one of the states that taxes gamblers at a rate of 8%.
