REGGIE Miller was abruptly absent from his NBA on TNT duties on Tuesday.
The NBA legend was meant to call the matchup between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers.
Reggie Miller was absent from his NBA on TNT broadcastGetty Miller is set to leave TNT following this seasonGettyEarly in the game, TNT play-by-play broadcaster Ian Eagle made it known that Miller wouldn’t make it to the game.
He was replaced by fellow Hall of Famer Grant Miller for the night.
“Thank you to Grant Hill for stepping in,” Eagle said.
“Reggie Miller under the weather, and Grant happened to be coming into town anyway to present Tyrese Haliburton with his Olympic ring.
“We lose some three-point shooting, we gain some versatility going to the basket.”
There is no word on when Miller will return to the broadcast desk.
Miller’s absence from NBA TNT will soon become permanent rather than a one-off thing.
He agreed to become the color commentator for NBC when they return to NBA broadcasting next season.
TNT will be leaving the sport as NBC enters.
Miller will reportedly call games alongside Noah Eagle and Mike Tirico starting in the 2025/26 season.
The former Indiana Pacer made news recently after sounding off on the Dallas Mavericks for their Luka Doncic trade.
“One thing I’ve kinda taken offense to a little bit because I was someone who was critical of Luka, too,” he said.
“I felt that he needed to be in better shape, but I don’t like the character assassination on him floating from the Mavericks.
“And if it’s coming from the Mavericks about the reason why we traded him, he wasn’t in great shape, his conditioning, he would never get in shape.
New rights deal
The NBA signed an 11-year deal with three networks for the league's rights from the 2025-26 season.
And there will be no games on TNT for the first time since the network launched in 1988.
The Walt Disney Company will continue to show the league with 80 regular-season games across ESPN and ABC.
They will also show around 18 playoff games from the first and second round, a Conference Finals series for 10 of the 11 years, and remain the home of the NBA Finals.
NBC will return as an NBA broadcaster for the first time since 2002.
The network will show up to 100 games per season across it’s channels and Peacock streaming service.
It will also be the home of NBA All-Star and show approximately 28 playoff games from the first and second round.
NBC will show one Conference Finals Series for six of the 11 years, rotating with new broadcaster Amazon Prime.
Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games including one on Black Friday.
The streaming service is also the home of the latter stages of the NBA Cup and the entire Play-In Tournament.
Prime will also broadcast around one third of the playoff games in the first and second round.
“You guys know this, at least, I hope you do. You don’t become a First-Team All-NBA player five years in a row if you’re not in shape.
“So please stop the character assassination that this guy is out of shape, he’s lazy.
“I don’t like that, because you don’t get at that level at the age of 25 without doing what he’s done.
“So, there’s other things behind the scenes that I’m sure we don’t know about, but let’s not make it about conditioning.”
