Jaguars land WR Deebo Samuel in 2025 NFL mock draft trade ...Middle East

In a post-Super Bowl 2025 NFL mock draft from Pro Football Focus, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded down in the first round and acquired 49ers’ wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the process.

In Trevor Sikkema’s recent mock draft, he had the Jaguars moving from pick No. 5 to pick No. 11 in a trade with San Francisco. In return for moving down, Jacksonville landed Samuel as part of Sikkema’s deal.

“I expect the Jaguars to heavily invest in their offense this offseason now that Liam Coen is head coach, which is why I have them as an early potential destination for wide receiver Deebo Samuel,” wrote Sikkema.

On Sunday, it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the 49ers granted Samuel and his representatives permission to find a trade partner this offseason.

Since being drafted by the 49ers in the 2019 draft, Samuel has provided them with a do-it-all type of presence within their offense. He can be moved around the formation pre-snap, utilized as a motion man, and can get designed touches in a variety of ways.

Samuel has also been particularly good at picking up yards after the catch (YAC), often getting the ball in space where he can create.

This would bring a different element to the Jaguars’ offense under new head coach Liam Coen, who does consider himself apart of the Sean McVay coaching tree, which of course, has overlap with Kyle Shanahan’s system in San Francisco.

During the 2024 season, Samuel caught 51 passes for 670 yards at 13.1 yards per catch with three scores. The season prior, Samuel eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark. His best season came in 2021, where he totaled 1,559 receiving yards that year.

Of course, the other part of this equation to be mindful of is the contract that the Jaguars would have to take on with this addition. Samuel is entering the final year of his deal and comes with a $15.86 million cap hit. An extension would also have to be a part of this deal as well.

Another potential trickle-down effect of a move like this could be the Jaguars moving on from Christian Kirk, who plays primarily from the slot and would save Jacksonville $10.43 million in cap space this offseason if they released him.

Another dynamic presence in the Jaguars’ offense alongside of Brian Thomas would certainly help elevate this passing game. Accomplishing that and elevating the play of quarterback Trevor Lawrence is at the top of the to-do list for Coen, but not to be forgotten about, the running game will play an important role in making that happen.
