AMERICANS are being urged to check their lottery tickets as a $1million prize is lying still unclaimed.
But when the winner does eventually come forward, they could instantly lose half the cash.

They had bought a ticket to play “The Pick” – and their numbers matched the draw.
The winning coupon was sold at a Shell location near 52nd Street and Thomas Road, Pheonix.
The golden combination of numbers for the February 3 draw was: 1, 4, 11, 27, 37 and 39.
The mystery player has 180 days from the data of the draw to claim the prize – meaning they must do so before August 2, 2025.
The winner has two options for how to receive their winnings.
They can either take a lump-sum cash payment or choose an annuity arrangement.
The annuity option sees the cash paid out in instalments over 30 years.
These payments increase by 5 percent year-on-ear.
If the player goes with the lump sum, they will lose a significant chunk of their winnings – because they will receive the Jackpot Pool.
This is the actual amount of cash collected from sales into the prize fund.
There will also be tax to pay on the money.
Tickets for The Pick cost just $1 each.
Prizes are given out every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday when winning numbers are drawn.
To check your numbers against the winning combo, you can look at the website or call the Winning Numbers Hotline.
Meanwhile, another lucky lottery player has unknowingly become a millionaire as game officials desperately search for the winner.
The Mega Millions prize winner has been identified as someone from New York City.
While the Mega Millions jackpot was not claimed, the player managed to win the second-tier prize of $1 million.
And powerball players have been urged to double check their tickets as one gambler still hasn’t cashed in a slip that’s worth a whopping $50,000.
The gambler spent just $2 on the slip on January 31 ahead of Saturday night’s draw.
