Kendrick Lamar has the honour of performing the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, and he’s going to make the most of it.
The hip-hop artist has won multiple awards for his various albums inspired by the fight for civil rights and social justice.
Lamar is a worldwide star and will no doubt deliver a stunning performanceGETTYNow, many millions will be tuning in to watch him perform the iconic halftime show at Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
But whether Lamar’s performance goes down as one of the best or worst in Super Bowl history largely depends on if he’s lip-syncing.
Will Kendrick Lamar lip-sync at the Super Bowl?
No, Lamar is not expected to lip-sync in New Orleans.
Lip-syncing at the Super Bowl halftime show is entirely down to the artist.
Some decide to, while others elect not to, and Lamar is anticipated to be part of the group who have shunned lip-syncing.
However, while that will lead to a more authentic performance, it does increase the chance of something going wrong.
One particularly bad halftime show came in 2011 when the Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie butchered Guns n’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O Mine’.
Then again, lip-syncing also leads to Patti LaBelle’s 1995 performance, which is famous for all the wrong reasons.
Either way, there is risk attached to the Super Bowl halftime show.
But this isn’t Lamar’s first time, having featured during Super Bowl LVI with Dr Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

Lamar will have 15 minutes to showcase his best songs to the hundreds of millions tuning in.
And he is set to have a number of special guests appear alongside him for the show.
Fellow American hip-hop artist SZA has already been confirmed to be joining Lamar in New Orleans.
The duo released a short video together in which it was confirmed that she will link up with Lamar again after collaborating on ‘Black Panther’.
Lamar could also cause some controversy by playing his Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’.
Some of the lyrics in the song accuse Drake of several illegal things, and the NFL might put pressure on Lamar not to play it.
However, the decision regarding that will ultimately lie with the 37-year-old.
Lamar has previously collaborated with Taylor Swift on the track ‘Bad Blood’ but it remains to be seen if Travis Kelce’s pop superstar girlfriend will make an appearance at the halftime show.

Super Bowl LIX will take place on Sunday, February 9.
It will be held at Caesars Superdome in Louisiana, home stadium of the New Orleans Saints.
Kick-off is scheduled for 11:30pm UK time, with the half-time show expected at around 1am.
