The Upper Blue Lakes- Woohoo!The Upper Blue Lake is scheduled to be stocked once again this week. One of Ukiah’s most experienced anglers told me that the trout fishin’ on Blue Lakes starting to get good right now! The folks trolling have been doing the best. The trout are hold in about 20 feet of water. Running thru them with a action disc trailed with a wooly-buger has been working well. Also, folks that are fishing from docks or along Hwy. 20 have hooked into some real beauty’s using powerbait off the bottom.
Russian River- Due to the wonderful rain storms that have been coming in, the steelhead fishin’ has been hit or miss as of late. But if you catch it right, when the river turns green, the steelhead fishin’ has been on. There has been good reports of fishermen catching steelies in the Ukiah Valley area. I heard of a nine pounder hooked on the Russian River.
Clearlake – The bass fishing tournament season gearing up on Clearlake. There are bass anglers everywhere on the weekends. So, I would suggest fishin’ mid-week if at all possible. Some anglers have had success throwing a umbrella A rig or large swimbaits, like a Trash Fish. There are fish in the tules and around deep docks . Make long casts beyond your targeted area and slowly reel in your swimbait or umbrella rig, allowing it to bump off the bottom some. And then, Wham-o, fish on! During the spring months, Teresa and I like to fish the north end of the lake ( Lakeport and around towards Kelseyville ) There are a lot bass that are staging around the mouths of creeks. Lately, the mouth Rodman Slough, Rattlesnake Island, Nice / Lucerne shoreline, along Lakeport and the deep water at Henderson Point have been some of the hot spots.The number four rated bass fishery in the United States.
Lake Sonoma- Some good fishin’ reports coming out of Lake Sonoma. The fall and winter fishing has been pretty tough for some. But, now the bass bite is back! The main body hot spots are anywhere there are running creeks coming into the lake. Also, Yorty, Cherry, and Skunk Creeks are holding bass that are staged for spawning. The bass haven’t moved up far yet. They are hanging out near submersed timber. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and drop shottin’ are all working well.
