Mark Byington’s team condemned the Wildcats to consecutive losses for the first time this season.

The final buzzer was met by jubilant scenes as Vanderbilt celebrated beating No.9-ranked Kentucky.

Fans stormed onto the court in celebration, a violation of league rules.

As this is Vanderbilt’s third violation of the season, it will be hit with a $500k fine.

Per league policy, the sum will be paid to the opposing team, in this case Kentucky.

Vanderbilt’s first infringement came last October following a college football game.

Fans stormed the field following a 40-35 triumph over Alabama, which led to a $100k fine.

Their second penalty came just a week ago, after the men’s basketball team defeated No.6-ranked Tennessee.

Fans rushed the court following that win, which led to the school’s second fine, this time worth $250k.

Any additional infringement from this point on will lead to further $500k fines.

Competition rules state, “Institutions shall limit access to competition areas to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly credentialed or authorized individuals at all times.

“For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest may spectators enter the competition area.”

Last Saturday, the Commodores were led by 18-points from Jason Edwards.

The win took Byington’s team to 16-4.

‘WE CAN WIN ANY GAME’

Vanderbilt has enjoyed it’s best start since the 2009-10 season.

Speaking after the win over Kentucky, Byington was in jubilant mood.

“At the same time, you know, I feel like we can win any game if we play the right way and stick with our strengths and our characteristics that are really good,” he said.

Vanderbilt will return to action tomorrow with a trip to Oklahoma.

It will then travel to fifth-seed Florida on Tuesday night.

The program’s next home game will come on February 8 against Texas.
