The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of wide receiver and return specialist DeAndre Carter.
DeAndre Carter’s 2024 Snapshot
DeAndre Carter played a versatile role for the Chicago Bears during the 2024 season, contributing as both a wide receiver and a return specialist. In his second sting with the Bears, Carter appeared in 13 games and recorded nine receptions for 72 yards while averaging 8.0 yards per catch. His longest reception went for 14 yards. Though primarily utilized on special teams, Carter stepped into the starting lineup at wide receiver when Keenan Allen was sidelined with a heel injury, providing depth and reliability in the passing game.
On special teams, Carter remained an essential piece of the Bears’ return unit, offering explosiveness in the kick and punt return game. Carter averaged a career-best 31.9 yards per kick return in 2024. However, his season was cut short when he was placed on injured reserve after Week 15, limiting his impact down the stretch.
As a returner, Carter logged 158 punt return yards on 17 returns and 479 yards on 15 attempts. His 31.9 yards per kick return ranked second-best among return specialists with at least 10 return attempts this season.
Despite the setback, Carter’s versatility and experience made him a valuable depth piece for the Bears, and his ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game remains a key asset heading into 2025 if the Bears decide to bring him back.

DeAndre Carter stepped into the return specialist role when Velus Jones Jr. couldn’t hack it, and he performed well enough for me to have an interest in Chicago bringing him back in 2025 at a reasonable price point. Carter made $1.2 million for his work in 2024, and the 31-year-old return specialist is probably in line to make the same this spring when he becomes a free agent. If the Bears could solidify their return game for that price and bring back a guy who is familiar with special teams coordinator Richard Hightower and vice versa, sign me up.
