Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking: Obituary for Ann Habersham Irvin Wilson ...Middle East

News by : (chapelboro) -

Friends and family mourn the loss of an independent, witty, creative, faithful, gentle, and self-sacrificing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ann Habersham Irvin Wilson.

Born on October 23, 1931 in Rome, Georgia, Ann passed away at 93 years of age on January 22, in Chapel Hill, NC. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer King Wilson and Robin Bentley Wilson Johnston (married to Inho Kang). Anna Habersham Wilson, her second eldest daughter, preceded her in death. Her grandchildren include Peter Johnston (married to Elizabeth DeRoy Johnston), Merrimon Johnston Stillman (married to Josh Stillman), and Annie Johnston (partner Alexander Ermoshkine with children Nikita and Polina Ermoshkine). Great grandchildren include Brooks and Banks Johnston, and Jacob and David Stillman.

Ann was also preceded in death by many adoring pets: Friday (a cat), and dogs Nana, Gretchen, Willie, Max, Copper, and Pookie, not to mention various hamsters, parakeets, ducks, and a lizard she befriended who frequented her kitchen window.

Ann was a devoted wife to Frank Crane Wilson for 70 years (who also preceded her in death), a loving mother to three spirited girls, and an active Christian at the Chapel of the Cross. She spent her early years in Rome, Georgia, and attended Shorter College with a special interest in literature. She was employed at various times as a medical secretary, realtor, and graphic designer. She was also a talented artist and will forever be remembered through her beautiful watercolor paintings which decorate the homes of all her family members.

In addition to expressing herself through writing, drawing, painting, knitting, sewing, cooking, and playing guitar and piano, she also poured her artistic talents into homemaking and Christian education and service. She was known for exceptional hospitality, bringing the family together over her beautiful holiday tables and at weekly Sunday suppers, as well as hosting well-attended parties for her and Frank’s friends. She was an active member of her neighborhood garden club, and a lovely rose garden she tenderly nurtured greeted all who visited her home. Ann also gave her time and creativity to her church, the Chapel of The Cross, providing embroidery for the church’s Loaves & Fishes aprons, and creating digital art representations to keep her students engaged as a Sunday school teacher.

In the summers, Ann hosted “Camp Dadno-Ma’am,” with daily activities, art projects, and don’t forget the lemonade and cookies. We were fortunate that she was such an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives. Through it all, she unwaveringly supported Frank and his career, always putting her family above herself.

One of Ann’s greatest pleasures was sitting in the surf, sun hat on head, toes in the swirling tide, as she formed delicate drip castles and admired the depth and wonder of the ocean. She hosted many beach vacations for the whole family, and they were grateful to have shared that joy with her up to her very last summer.

Ann also enjoyed playing computer games like Bedlam on her TRS-80 back in 1977 or playing Woodoku on her ipad in 2024, which kept her spirit lively and fed her fascination with new technologies.

Throughout her life, she brought family together, was fiercely loyal, compassionately supported all struggling souls, and quietly and humbly forbear many challenges to the very end, while never losing her quick wit and sense of humor. We adored her.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 10th in the chapel at the Chapel of the Cross at 1:00 pm. A reception at the church will follow the service, and then a graveside service will convene at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Chapel of the Cross, the church that served as the foundation for her faith.
