Adventist Health Ukiah Valley welcomes new mental health specialist ...Middle East

News by : (Ukiah Daily Journal) -

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley continues to address the need for mental health services in the community with the addition of Dr. Judith Murrillo, clinical psychologist. Dr. Murrillo is now seeing patients at the medical office located at 1050 N. State St. in Ukiah.

Caring for children, adolescents and adults ages 8 and older, Dr. Murrillo brings many years of experience in caring for patients with a wide range of mental health needs ranging from schizoaffective disorder to personality disorders, depression, and generalized anxiety disorders. Prior to joining Adventist Health, she most recently cared for patients as a licensed clinician at Redwood Community Services both in Ukiah and Fort Bragg.

She brings a wealth of experience and passion for children and adolescent mental health, including treating children with trauma, parenting support and addressing behavioral issues.

She also brings expertise in treating common conditions such as complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and general PTSD, as well as mood disorders, and children and adults with trauma. As a clinical psychologist, she offers cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, play therapy (for younger children), family therapy and parenting support.

She spent part of her childhood in France and moved to the United States when she was 10 years old. That experience of growing up bi-culturally and observing how cultural differences impact relationships inspired her interest in psychology. Initially, she intended to focus on psychological research but after doing her research and interning in a psychiatric facility, she found a love for direct patient care. “I saw the difference I could make in people’s lives and the direct impact I could have. I also liked the variety of patients I got to serve and getting to know them. It’s always an adventure; you’ll never know what kind of day you’re going to have.”

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of California-Santa Cruz, and her PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University in San Francisco.

Dr. Murrillo says she chose Ukiah Valley because of her desire to provide a better continuum of care for patients. “A lot of my experiences have been tertiary level patients and more episodic. Being in an outpatient clinic setting will allow me to support patients throughout their treatment and offer more continuity of care.”

When Dr. Murrillo isn’t in the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, and whenever possible, visiting the beautiful beaches on the Mendocino Coast.

Dr. Murrillo is now welcoming patients at 1050 N. State St. in Ukiah. To make an appointment, patients can call (707) 463-7428.
