A 21-year-old Laguna Niguel man suspected of providing fentanyl that resulted in two overdose deaths in Orange County in 2023 was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
The man, identified as Michel “Mike” Joseph Abdallah, has been charged with two counts of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, two counts of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes, the U.S. Justice Department said in a news release.
The indictment alleges he distributed fentanyl in March and May 2023 in Mission Viejo and Aliso Viejo, to two individuals who used/ingested the drugs and fatally overdosed.
The indictment also alleges that Abdallah was in possession of nearly three pounds of fentanyl and a “ghost gun”– described as an AR-15-style pistol with no serial number– on June 10, 2023.
If Abdallah is convicted of all six charges, the minimum sentence will be 20 years in federal prison. He is in state custody ahead of his arraignment in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, which will happen within the next few weeks.
