For the second year in a row, Big Bear bald eagle Jackie has delivered a three-egg clutch.
Jackie and her mate, Shadow, welcomed the third egg of 2025 shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. The egg arrived three days after the second and six days after the first.
In a social media post, Friends of Big Bear Valley, the organization that maintains two web cams trained on the eagle pair’s nest overlooking Big Bear Lake, announced the third egg arrived after a short labor for Jackie.
“Another beautiful job well done,” the post read in part. “Another miracle of nature moving forward on the adventure of life.”
In 2024, Jackie delivered her first three-egg clutch, though none of the eggs survived. It’s been nearly three years since one of Jackie’s offspring, Sprit, survived and hatched.
Pip watch — looking for signs of a chick hatching — generally begins about 35 days after an eagle has delivered the final egg of a clutch.
