“It’s absurd that a chain as big as yours can’t maintain the up keep.”
The woman added that she has given the chain 20 chances to get it right.
“I’ve tried getting balloons with you guys over 20 times and have yet to actually get any!!!,” she wrote.
Dollar Tree quickly responded asking for the location of the store in question and reassured the customer that action was taken.
The chain said: “Thank you for providing this information. We have escalated your concern to the appropriate team to be reviewed and addressed.”
But despite reassurances, other customers have been complaining about the helium issue for months.
“Dollar tree ain’t worth a DAMN! no helium for my green balloons.. NONE OF THEM!” another wrote.
“Dollar Tree never has helium… the balloon releases are doomed,” a third said.
Meanwhile, the closure of all Party City stores after 40 years in business saw customers warn Dollar Tree to sort the problem out and brace for an influx of demand for helium balloons.
Last month one shopper wrote: “While Party City is having their liquidation sale Dollar Tree needs to get in line to buy the helium because they never got none and they about to get all Party City’s customers.”
One explanation for the issue came underneath another customer complaint.
They tagged the retailer in a post in December asking why it even sells balloons when they never have the gas needed to fill them.
Dollar Tree replied: “Hello – Due to global helium shortage, helium availability will vary by location.
“We recommend calling your local store to inquire about product availability at this time.”
There has been a global shortage of helium for the past few years and its use for a variety of everyday uses such as in MRIs means that there is less available for balloons.
A number of factors have impacted its supply including dwindling resources and geopolitics.
Many countries turned to Russia to help ease the demand on supplies but the conflict in Ukraine saw sanctions placed on purchasing Russian gas including helium.
There was also a major fire at a new facility in Russia that would have supplied almost a third of the world’s helium.
Meanwhile, shoppers hoping to scoop a viral Valentine’s Day item from Dollar Tree have received an apology from the chain, not related to a global shortage but due to the early arrival of another celebration.
