Luna’s Tacos and Tequila, a made-from-scratch Mexican restaurant, is closing its Greeley location on 9th Street for an undetermined amount of time, the restaurant announced Monday in emails and social media posts.

Luna’s, located at 806 9th Street in Greeley, opened in 2018. Owners added a Windsor location at 1246 Automation Drive in April 2024. The Windsor restaurant remains open.

A post on Luna’s Facebook page Monday afternoon said while running the downtown Greeley location has been a great pleasure, it’s also been “one of our most difficult challenges.”

“At this time, we’ve made the difficult yet necessary decision to push pause — to reenergize, refocus, rejuvenate, and come back stronger,” the post read.

Luna’s is owned by Samantha Corliss, Brian Seifried and Ely Corliss. Luna’s owners could not be reached for comment as of early Monday evening.

The group also owns the Moxi Theater, located next door to Luna’s, Sexy Sammies, a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders and salad restaurant with four locations in northern Colorado, and the Wing Shack, with 10 locations in Colorado and Wyoming, according the Luna’s website.

Samantha Corliss and Seifried previously owned and operated The Centennial Public House, also on 9th Street. The restaurant closed in July after about a year in operation.

The Facebook post indicated Luna’s ownership planned to reopen the Greeley restaurant, but the message said only “when the time is right.”

Greeley Downtown Development Authority executive director Bianca Fisher said early Monday evening it was disappointing to hear of the closure, but she’s been assured by Luna’s ownership that the closure is temporary.

Seifried is a board member with the Greeley DDA, and Fisher said she knows his character and status as a business owner. Fisher added she supports and encourages the Luna’s closure as needed.

“They’ll take the opportunity to make some improvements and take a pause and jump back into it whole hearted,” Fisher said. “It’s not doom and gloom. “He (Seifreid) is committed to downtown and being a small business owner anywhere is incredibly challenging.”

The Luna’s Facebook post thanked customers and guests for their love, support and memories. also pledged support and understanding for other businesses in downtown Greeley and encouraged support for these owners and businesses, saying “the vitality of our downtown depends on all of us.”

“We want to take a moment to remind you that where you choose to eat, where you choose to see a concert, where you choose to watch a movie, and even what brand of beer or liquor you buy all make a huge difference in your community,” according to the Luna’ Facebook post.

“We can’t wait to welcome you back when the time is right,” the post also said. “Until then, please remember: shop local, and support Downtown Greeley.

While Luna’s Greeley closure is not thought to be permanent, other well-known local area restaurants have closed since the start of 2024, including Fusco Pizza on 8th Street in Greeley closed in July; Fat Albert’s on 23rd Avenue in Greeley closed in August; Kenny’s Steakhouse on West 10th Street in Greeley closed in October and Herradura Mexican Restaurant on 8th Avenue in Greeley closed in the spring following flooding in dowtown Greeley.

Farmers Inn, a Mexican restaurant that operated in LaSalle for 55 years, closed in early November.
