TRAVIS Kelce opened up on a huge regret during his Kansas City Chiefs career that continues to haunt him.

Kelce, who’s looking to win a historic third straight Super Bowl title, opened up on the subject as there have been retirement rumors concerning the 35-year-old tight end.

The 10-time Pro Bowler has been known for being part of a legendary duo with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

However, Kelce also played with a different signal-caller in Alex Smith for the first four campaigns of his NFL career.

During that span, the two didn’t win a Super Bowl, and Smith was traded by the Chiefs in 2018 to pave the way for Mahomes.

Kansas City has gone on to win three Super Bowl titles, all led by Mahomes, and can win the big game for a third-straight time in this year’s playoffs – the first team to achieve that feat.

Kelce feels guilty about not winning a title with Smith due to his influence early on in his career.

“I wanted to get a Super Bowl for Alex,” Kelce said in an interview with ESPN.

“He was such a great leader to me, showed me how to do it the right way.

“I wanted to go out and get one for him or at least keep fighting for him.

“I felt guilty I wasn’t able to get one for him.”

The No. 10 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Mahomes spent one season as a backup to Smith.

“At the same time, everybody knew what we had in Pat,” Kelce admitted about the team’s feelings on Mahomes in the 2017-18 season.

“I was excited about having a new wave of energy and excitement in the offense, a guy with a big arm, a guy that could do it all.”

The Chiefs will play in the AFC Championship for the seventh consecutive season this weekend.

They will host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and a win would send them to the Super Bowl in New Orleans on February 9.

Mahomes has three Super Bowl MVPs on his resume, and Kelce thinks the 29-year-old is the greatest NFL player of all time.

“He’s every bit of a superstar off the field as he is on the field,” Kelce said.

“There’s one common denominator from the Chiefs my entire career and that’s Andy Reid, but this thing really took off when Patrick Mahomes got there.

“… He’s the greatest to ever do it. You can’t change my mind, otherwise.”

Kelce is coming off a stellar performance against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round last weekend.

Shutting up the retirement rumors surrounding him, the 12-year NFL veteran recorded a season-high seven receptions, 117 yards, and one touchdown.
