DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado was hit with an arctic blast that brought snow and subzero temperatures last weekend, but before the old snow could even melt, another storm is moving in.
After nearly 91 hours below freezing, Colorado started to warm up again on Tuesday, but temperatures still hovered near the freezing mark. Roads, sidewalks and grassy areas still have remnants of last weekend's storm, and a new layer of snow is about to be added.
Denver weather: Staying chilly before Saturday snowThe Pinpoint Weather team has been tracking an incoming snowstorm that will impact Saturday and Sunday. Here is everything you need to know to prepare for this weekend.
Timing
Friday will have the warmest temperature of the week, with highs closer to seasonal averages in the mid-40s in Denver. Light snow will begin in the northern mountains on Friday evening before making its way to the metro.
According to the Pinpoint Weather team, snow showers will start in Denver just before sunrise on Saturday and linger through most of the day. The snow is expected to begin tapering off on Saturday afternoon, ending by midnight.
Sunday will remain mostly dry, but it will be chilly in the upper 20s, which won't help with snow removal.
Pinpoint Weather 7-day forecast for Denver on Jan. 23Totals
Pinpoint Weather meteorologist Travis Michels said this storm won't produce impressive snow totals, but a few inches are possible.
View the latest Weather Alerts in Denver and across Colorado on FOX31Michels said this storm will produce light and fluffy snow. As of Thursday morning, here are the predicted snow totals for areas across Colorado:
Boulder/Fort Collins: 4 inches Denver: 1-3 inches Eastern Plains: trace to an inch Estes Park: 7 inches High country: 2-5 inches Pinpoint Weather: Snow totals on Jan. 25Impact
While there won't be much accumulation from this storm, roads could be impacted due to the frigid temperatures.
Michels said that most things will already be frozen before this storm system starts, thanks to the near-freezing temperatures. So, the metro probably won't see new ice until Sunday when the snow begins to melt and then refreezes after the sun sets.
Michels said this will be drier snow, similar to last weekend's conditions, but slippery spots are still possible, so take it slow on the roadways.
Confidence
This storm is still a few days out, so the forecast could change. However, the Pinpoint Weather team has confidence in the outlook.
