SKY have cancelled long-running comedy Brassic, which is Michelle Keegan’s last ongoing TV series.

After six years on our screens, the next series will be the last outing of the gang of wayward youths trying to eke out a living in a northern town.

Michelle, who recently confirmed she’s having a baby with husband Mark Wright, stars opposite leading man Joe Gilgun in the show, which debuted on Sky in 2019.

The seventh and final series of Brassic, which has developed a huge fan following, has just started filming and will drop later this year.

Danny Brocklehurst, co-creator & writer, said: “When Joe Gilgun and I sat down to create Brassic, we couldn’t have imagined, in our wildest dreams, that we would do seven series and gather such a loyal and loving fan base.

“It’s been a complete joy to create this eccentric world, but all good things must come to an end, and we want to stop while we are still riding high. Maybe they can finally give us that BAFTA.”

After shooting to fame playing Tina McIntyre in ITV’s Coronation Street from 2008 to 2014, Michelle saw her star rise further playing a female army medic in BBC military drama Our Girl from 2016 to 2020.

She is about to appear in the second series of BBC One period drama Ten Pound Poms, which is also written by Danny, but a third season has yet to be confirmed.

Despite the huge global success of Fool Me Once on Netflix, where Michelle played the lead character, talk of making more shows with the streaming giant haven’t led to the announcement of any kind of deal.

But Sky insists the conclusion of the show is entirely positive, pointing out that Brassic has been their most successful comedy ever.

A spokesman said: “Fans very quickly became attached to this dynamic group of friends, as they found unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia.

“We would like to thank Joe Gilgun, Danny Brocklehurst and the whole cast and crew – past and present – for bringing us all a truly iconic series, which we’ve loved for its special mix of hilarity and heart.”
