Jermod McCoy has suffered a significant knee injury, according to a report.
Per Austin Price of VolQuest, McCoy tore his ACL during a training session earlier this offseason. The report says McCoy has already undergone surgery to repair his knee.
While McCoy is slated to miss all of spring practice and summer workouts, the report says the hope is that McCoy will be able to return to action close to the start of the 2025 season.
McCoy was one of Tennessee’s best players during the 2024 campaign. The sophomore defensive back totaled 44 tackles, 9 pass deflections and 4 interceptions this past fall. He was a big reason why the Vols were able to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history.
His 2024 season was good enough to earn second-team All-SEC honors. Looking ahead to next season, the hope was that McCoy could take the leap to being one of the top cornerbacks in the country. That could still happen, of course, but an ACL tear is not how McCoy or the Vols would have wanted this offseason to begin.
