THE Green Bay Packers could be about to lose one of their star players after a brutal end to the season.
Green Bay limped to a 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild card round of the playoffs.
APJaire Alexander threw his Packers future into doubt[/caption] GettyJosh Jacobs is tackled during Green Bay’s defeat against Philadelphia in the playoffs[/caption]It was their third straight defeat and ended another year of promise for the Packers.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander, 27, missed the game through injury.
He became the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history with his $84 million deal over four years in 2022.
But Alexander’s season was cut short due to a sprained PCL.
He suffered the injury on October 28 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and didn’t feature in the final seven games of the regular-season.
The 27-year-old attempted a comeback against the Chicago Bears on November 17 but re-aggravated his injury.
He was placed on the injured reserve list on January 4.
That meant he missed the Week 18 loss to Chicago and the wild card defeat in Philadelphia.
And there is uncertainty around Alexander’s future in Green Bay.
He returned to the team facility after the Packers’ season ended this week.
And Alexander declined to speak to media, indicating he didn’t know if he was going to be around next season.
According to Kelly Hallinan of NBC26 in Green Bay, Alexander “said he didn’t have anything good to say so definitely wasn’t going to talk.”
The Packers face a 2025 dead cap charge of $18.1 million and a cap saving of $6.8 million if they cut Alexander.
But if they designate him for post-June 1 release then they would only have a dead cap charge of $7.8 million and savings of $17 million.
Alexander has been with Green Bay ever since his pro career began in 2018.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said, “We have a really tough division, and you know, I’m hoping our guys use that for fuel this offseason to dig a little bit deeper and come back a little bit better.
“Obviously we’ll comb through everything. We still have a young football team. I’m not making excuses or anything like that.
“We have a young football team that, unfortunately, this is a tough lesson along the way.
“Hopefully we can use this as fuel to get better and learn and be a better team come next year.”
